I somewhat did a little analysis of the video. And - I gotta say - it reminded me of The Neverending Story. With the two plots of Donnie's reality changing around him, all caused by Doug writing the Script - the dual realities going on. I loved it. The scenes with Doug and Critic were so well written and executed so excellently.
Doug truly has talents to be proud of. And frankly - the video expressed feelings that I had since I started watching him 3 and a half years ago. The idea of making a new 20 minute video every single week - it's maddening. The unbelievable amount of stress put on anyone; it's why I was so impressed by the Critic when compared to the Nerd. They both do good vids, but only one of them has managed to submit them on a weekly basis. But, I knew that it was only a matter of time, and eventually something was gonna have to give. I assumed that he'd eventually go down to only one video a month. Which was why I was so shocked when he quit...But still - in his own words - it was just Burnout.
I am so glad that he's back and I'm glad he's now giving himself leg-room to his work schedule. I look forward to seeing him review again - now with absolutely no cutoff dates. And I will continue to hope and believe that one day, he and the Nerd will fight again.

Not much else to say but this - "Who'd have thought that all of this would come, from the Odd Life of Timothy Green?"

The part where Donnie had to say goodbye to Rebecca, Quinn, Carl, and Tacoma. And them in return assuring him that they will be okay so he can go through the Plot Hole.

That got me all choked up and teary eyed. :cries:

I don't mean to cause controversy, but I must ask. Did he return as the Nostalgia Critic because of the negative reception of Demo Reel (I've heard from people that it was bad), or was he forced into it by his fan? I'm just curious. I don't want to start a fight, I'm just asking a question.
Krysella Featured By Owner Jan 27, 2013
We can never know for sure.
But if you are interested in speculation:
Litwolf689 Featured By Owner Jan 25, 2013
Nobody except Doug and Rob Walker know for sure. But yes, some fan speculate that Demo Reel wasn't bringing in the numbers they had hoped for and, after all, TGWTG and all the videos are a business for them.

I hope that there was at least a part of it was that they both just needed a break from the Nostalgia Critic and, after five months, they were actually missing it and had their creative juices back.

I think I just fangasmed...
dazza1008 Featured By Owner Jan 24, 2013
I'm glad he made that decision quickly - I haven't really given Demo Reel a go, but the one episode I did watch (sorta in the middle)... I didn't like it. I thought the jokes were predictable, and they were stretttttttttttched out, which dilutes the jokes and wastes the audiences time.

I feel sorry for him, but I just wasn't happy with it.
Courtneytehhedgehog Featured By Owner Jan 23, 2013
okay, i saw the review must go on, but theres something im confused, i know that its about Doug deciding to bring back the Nostalgia Critic, but i didnt get the ending, was Donnie actually the Nostalgia Critic?
Krysella Featured By Owner Jan 24, 2013
No, they were seperate characters, and Donnie for the most part just seized to exist. It's just what he experienced - his failures with his own movies which is actually Demo Reel's lack of success - that got through into the NC.
...Sort of meta stuff. :)

I was almost in tears after I saw The Review Must Go On. I was skeptical but this video did a perfect job getting me on board for a return.

Its like he said, he got new ideas and thinks NC can be fresh again. i for one am excited that hes coming back. my feelings on Demo Reel ending? well i think it was a decent show but it got a lot of hate. while some may say it was just starting to hit its stride, i think the character development was the strongest part. the show itself was weak on its own. sure, i had a few laughs now and then but it wasnt that good. so am i upset? ehh kinda, but ill respect his decision to bring it back

Well that was a short sabbatical.

Almost seven months a.k.a. a little over half a year is short to you?
Litwolf689 Featured By Owner Jan 24, 2013
The Critic ended at the beginning of September last year so it's actually five months.

But either way, sometimes you need a break of a few months to miss something and get new creative juices flowing.

Yeah, Demo Reel not doing that well, they gotta get back the traffic they lost because of NC being put off air.
It's not surprising but I thought he would have endured longer. I don't blame him. Demo Reel wasn't that good and I do miss NC.
Nothingbutblankness Featured By Owner Jan 23, 2013  Student Traditional Artist
This video was actually quite powerful. But still, I'll miss Demo Reel, it was just starting to get good.
Krysella Featured By Owner Jan 23, 2013
I agree. I wasn't at all interested in it at first TBH, but in the end it turned out really epic!
Still would have liked more of Demo Reel - or running both shows maybe.
Nothingbutblankness Featured By Owner Jan 23, 2013  Student Traditional Artist
That would have been nice.
Nitrox8 Featured By Owner Jan 23, 2013
I'm glad the critic is back, but at the same time sad because of Demo Reel not doing as well as Doug Walker hoped. I ac tually liked demo reel too. Was it as good as the NC, no but it wasn't terrible. It just had big shoes to fill after the end of NC. With that being said I'm happy to see the critic's return and looking foward to the next episode coming out soon
CaptainAwesometastic Featured By Owner Jan 23, 2013  Hobbyist
The Review Must Go On was used to explain to the fans why the NC ended, and why Doug wants to bring him back. Personally, I think that this was a rather honest video; it simply said that what was thought to have run dry really just needed time to rest. People were whining since last year about how the Critic was getting less funny, so they shouldn't be complaining that the problem was addressed. In No More Nostalgia Critic, Doug said that just because NC was popular didn't mean he had to keep doing it, and I don't think he'd go back to it just because fans were complaining. There had to have been some new ideas there to bring the Critic out of the plot hole and back into I'm so excited for the new episodes, and I know a lot of people aren't, but we'll all find out if the new episodes are as good as the old in less than two weeks.

For some reason, though I didn't think about it, I sort of knew he was gonna bring him back sometime or later...Either way, looking forward to it :D
AshesSakura Featured By Owner Jan 23, 2013
Well Doug did say if there were certain films that he and his brother felt like needed to be reviewed then NC would be revived for a few videos every now and then.
Anyway, I THOUGHT THIS VDEO WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oz-suka Featured By Owner Jan 23, 2013
everyone here and Facebook squee like little girls when it comes to the NC coming back but nobody else here sees this as something forced?

I'm actually really skeptical about this myself... >.>

People on LiveJournal are really upset right now: [link]

Right now, I'm sitting back and waiting to see where this goes from here, hoping for a V-log of explanation or just seeing what comes of his next video.
Tabascofanatikerin Featured By Owner Jan 23, 2013  Hobbyist
I do.

Don't get me wrong: I've enjoyed his reviews as you did (or at least about two thirds of them).
But it's a very strange feeling after this big goodbye last year and not even half a year and a not-that-successful other project later he's telling us "You know what? I'm gonna do the Nostalgia Critic again!".

But, well, when he does his reviews again I'm gonna watch them for sure to see what he has to serve.
Let's see how long he'll make it this time.
